There is no upper age limit to appear in JEE Main. Passing year rule: The "passing year" is the year in which a candidate's Class 12 result was declared "pass" for the very first time. The "State code of eligibility" is based on where the candidate passed Class 12, not the candidate's home state or residence. E.g., a Noida resident who passed Class 12 from a Delhi school gets Delhi as the state of eligibility. NIOS candidates take the state where their study centre is located. 4Subject & Course Requirementsविषय व Course आवश्यकता

NTA itself does not mandate a fixed Class 12 subject combination to sit for JEE Main — but the subjects a candidate studied in Class 12 determine which admission route (Paper 1/2A/2B) they can actually use later, because admitting institutes (via JoSAA/CSAB rules) require specific subject combinations:

In addition, for NIT+ System admission (NITs/IIEST/IIITs/GFTIs), a candidate must either score at least 75% aggregate in the best five Class 12 subjects (65% for SC/ST/PwD candidates), or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board — whichever condition is met. This is a JoSAA/CSAB admission rule, separate from JEE Main eligibility, and JoSAA/CSAB reserve the right to revise it.

Register on the official portal with basic personal details, mobile number and email ID; create a password and choose a security question. Fee is payable online only — Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI. Processing charges and applicable GST are added by the bank/payment gateway on top of the base exam fee (see Section 17 for the fee table). Because the exam runs across many shifts (with different question sets), raw marks are not directly comparable across shifts. NTA converts each candidate's raw score in each subject — and the overall total — into a percentile-based NTA Score using a normalisation procedure, separately for every shift.
